Shellac Powder Dewaxed

Dewaxed shellac powder is a refined form of natural lac resin that has been processed to remove its natural wax content, resulting in a harder, more transparent, and faster-drying finish. Unlike standard “waxy” shellac, the dewaxed version is a universal sealer compatible with almost any other topcoat, including polyurethane, lacquer, and varnish.

Key Applications
Dewaxed shellac is versatile and used across several high-performance industries:
Fine Woodworking: It is the essential resin for French polishing and antique restoration because it enhances wood grain “chatoyance” (depth and shine) without yellowing over time.
Pharmaceuticals & Nutraceuticals: Approved by the FDA and USP, it is used for enteric coating on tablets and capsules to protect active ingredients from moisture and mask odors.
Food & Confectionery: Used as a glaze (E904) for chocolates, candies, and coffee beans, and as a protective coating for fruits and vegetables to extend shelf life.
Cosmetics: Functions as a film-forming agent in high-end hair sprays, mascaras, and nail polishes for long-lasting shine and hold.

Technical Specifications
Purity: Typically 99% or higher.
Wax Content: Maximum 0.20%, ensuring a clear solution and better adhesion for subsequent coats.
Melting Point: Generally between 75°C and 91°C.
Solubility: Dissolves easily in denatured alcohol (ethyl alcohol); powder form dissolves faster than flakes.
